Today, dawn raids were carried out at 47 locations connected to Călin Georgescu in 5 counties of Romania.
The Prosecutor General's Office ordered the searches claiming they are investigating alleged crimes related to “electoral campaign financing and actions against the constitutional order.”
Yesterday, 3 opposition parties filed a motion of no-confidence against the coalition government over claims it was corrupt and had lost the trust of the country.
Romania has been embroiled in political chaos since the Constitutional Court decided to annul the 2024 presidential elections after Georgescu took a surprise lead.
Large-scale protests took place in Romania over the weekend, with thousands of people signing petitions in support of Georgescu’s candidacy in the upcoming elections.
Georgescu condemned toady’s raids as politically motivated to try and prevent him from taking part in the May re-run of the Presidential election:
“They are desperately trying to fabricate evidence to justify the theft of the elections and to do whatever it takes to block my new presidential candidacy.
We are living under communism—there is nothing free or legal about what is happening.”
