Doron Steinbrecher, an Israeli veterinary nurse, was kidnapped from her home in Kibbutz Kfar Aza on October 7, 2023. As terrorists invaded her apartment, she hid under her bed, desperately trying to stay out of sight. In those horrifying moments, Doron managed to send a final voice message to her loved ones, whispering: “They’ve got me, they’ve got me.”
On Sunday, after 471 days in Hamas captivity, she was released.
The girls testify that they were moved from place to place several times, and were kept in a civilian apartment, tunnels underground, and even a humanitarian compound.
They spent most of their days without any sunlight and were used as literal shields by the terrorists when they were being transferred.
One of them even underwent surgery without anesthesia, a story we've heard often from surviving hostages.
Amid unthinkable loss and cruelty, our greatest act of defiance is to live, to rebuild, and to bring new Jewish life into the world.
This is Gadi Mozes, freed just days ago, with former hostage Doron Katz Asher.
On October 7, terrorists attacked their community. They murdered Doron's mother, Efrat—Gadi’s partner—and took Gadi, Doron, and her young children hostage in Gaza.
Now, Gadi rests his hand on Doron’s belly—she is expecting a child. A symbol of resilience, of hope, and of an unbreakable people.
Efrat Machikawa, niece of released hostage Gadi Mozes:
"Gadi was terrified when he saw the huge mob of terrorists that surrounded his release. He had been holding up for so long, and those were horrifying moments for him.
He was held in terrible conditions. He wasn't kept in one place but in different locations. He was alone almost all the time and suffered extreme loneliness. He had almost no interaction with others.
He thought about his work, his teachings. He says that his hope, love, and concern for his family is what kept him going despite it all."
"Yesterday, we were reunited with my father. Although he lost a significant amount of weight, his spirit remained unbroken. I admire my father's strength and resilience; he endured unimaginable hardship." - Yulie Ben Ami, daughter of former hostage Ohad Ben Ami.
All 3 hostages are in the hands of the IDF and are on their way to Israel after 498 days of hell held by Hamas in Gaza.
