A Florida sheriff’s deputy resigned after crashing his patrol car while distracted by explicit content on his phone. The incident occurred on November 6, 2024, in Lake County, Florida, when Deputy Tristan Macomber rear-ended a vehicle that had stopped for a school bus.
Initially, Macomber attributed the collision to mechanical failure, claiming his brakes had locked up. However, an internal investigation revealed that he was watching a pornographic movie on his personal cell phone at the time of the crash. Dashcam footage showed Macomber holding his phone moments before the impact.
When first questioned, Macomber stated he was reading text messages in a group chat with fellow deputies. He later admitted to watching explicit images, describing them as “pornographic material like boobs or whatnot.”
The investigation concluded that Macomber violated multiple department policies, including providing false information, using an electronic device for prohibited content, and failing to wear a seatbelt during the incident.
Macomber, who joined the Lake County Sheriff’s Office in 2021, resigned during the internal affairs investigation. He has not been charged with any criminal offenses related to the incident.
