PETE HEGSETH CONFIRMED BY SENATE AS TRUMP'S DEFENCE SECRATARY IN 51-50 VOTE

The Senate confirmed Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense with a narrow 51-50 vote, requiring a tie-breaking vote from Vice President JD Vance.

Three Republicans opposed him, citing allegations of sexual misconduct. Sen. Lisa Murkowski and Sen. Susan Collins expressed concerns about Hegseth's judgment and previous statements on women in combat.

Hegseth denied the allegations, calling them a smear campaign. He faced intense questioning about his past infidelity and a 2017 sexual assault allegation during his confirmation hearing.

Hegseth argued his views on women in combat had evolved, emphasizing the need for accountability in leadership roles.
