A unique marriage trend is rapidly growing in Indonesia's Puncak region. In this, young Indonesian girls are getting married temporarily to male tourists in exchange for money. If both sides agree, they have an informal wedding and pay for the bride to the woman. A woman who became a wife has sex with her husband (tourist), and does housework to fulfill his needs as long as the tourist stays in Indonesia. When the husband leaves the country, the marriage ends. This has become a big means of attracting tourists in this area.
Earlier, the girl's family members used to arrange the meeting of foreign tourists with the girl. But, as soon as the big agents here saw this, they jumped into it. The special thing is that mostly economically weak women take part in such marriages. This fulfills their financial needs. A girl who arranged such a marriage told that she became a bride at the age of 17.
She told that till now she has got married more than 15 times. All these marriages have been with tourists coming from the Middle East. Her first husband was from Saudi Arabia, whose age was more than 50 years. He had given her 850 dollars as bride price. But, the girl got only about half of this money. The remaining money goes to agents and other people.
However, this marriage is being criticized a lot in Indonesia and other countries. Critics say that this marriage is a way of exploiting women. Questions are also being raised about the legality of this marriage, according to the report.
