Once I came across this powerful story which I have realized, how our struggles shape our greatest strengths. After reading this story, try to apply it's lesson not only in your own life, but also share it to your family and friends. Sometimes, with the best intentions, we try to help others by eliminating their struggles. However, what they truly need is the opportunity to handle challenges on their own and grow stronger from them!
There once was a man who came across a butterfly cocoon. Curious to see the butterfly emerge, the man sat and watched for hours as the butterfly struggled to force its body through a small hole. Then, nothing. The butterfly appeared to stop making progress. It seemed to the man that the butterfly had gone as far as it could and could struggle no more.
With the best intentions, the man decided to help the butterfly. He grabbed a pair of scissors and carefully cut off the remaining part of the cocoon. With the cocoon opened, the butterfly no longer had to struggle and emerged easily.
However, as it emerged, the man noticed that the butterfly had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings. He continued to watch, expecting the butterfly to grow its wings and fly away. But this never happened. The butterfly spent the rest of its short life crawling on the ground, unable to fly.
What the man failed to understand was that the cocoon’s struggle was essential for the butterfly’s development. The restriction of the cocoon forces fluid from the butterfly's swollen body into its wings, enabling them to grow strong enough for flight. By removing the struggle, the man had unintentionally deprived the butterfly of what it needed to become capable of flying.
Moral of the story:
“The Butterfly Cocoon Struggle” is a short motivational story about the process of transformation and growth by embracing and facing the struggles or challenges in our life. Sometimes this story is referred to as “You are Made to Fly.” As struggles and resistance are often necessary for growth and freedom.
Just like the butterfly, we also encounter obstacles and difficulties in our lives, but these challenges can help us become stronger and more resilient.
Our STRUGGLES always makes us STRONG overtime, which helps us to face the struggles of tomorrow. Sometimes the STRUGGLES we go through are exactly what we need to GROW and DEVELOP. Although it is never fun in the moment… we can almost always look back on difficult moments… as crucial times that changed us for the better in some way. We all face struggle, and sometimes we watch those we love struggle as well - and although we don’t wish upon anyone hard times, we all need them for growth and for strength.
Trying to avoid struggle… taking the easy path… will only lead to a harder life with greater struggles and lost opportunities, later on.., cursing the world, blaming the circumstances and others, which is of no use.
Remember, just being in struggle and failing to do anything won't make you any better, you must FACE your struggles and LEARN from them, take advantage of your past hard times. You must FACE YOUR STRUGGLES and believe you have the strength to overcome them.
There’s no shame in struggle… we all face our own battles in life… they are part of our journey, part of our STORY, pieces of our puzzle.
Next time you are going through a challenge or a struggle, remind yourself.., "This struggle CAN MAKE ME STRONG…. This struggle is preparing me for something BIGGER and BETTER. This struggle was sent to make me STRONGER… WISER… BETTER. It was sent to give me strength, so I can FLY…"
So, take advantage of the struggle as an opportunity, as they are often necessary for our growth and development. We should trust the process of transformation, even when it is difficult or uncomfortable, as it can lead to beautiful and meaningful outcomes.
