OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is reportedly planning a $1 million personal donation to the inaugural fund of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump. This move aligns with efforts by several tech leaders and companies to establish stronger relationships with the incoming administration.
In a statement, Altman expressed his support for Trump's leadership in advancing AI innovation, stating, "President Trump will lead our country into the age of AI, and I am eager to support his efforts to ensure America stays ahead."
This announcement comes amid Altman's legal dispute with Elon Musk, a rival and former OpenAI board member. Musk, along with entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, has been tapped by Trump to head the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an advisory committee focused on reducing government spending and regulations.
Musk, who sued OpenAI earlier this year, alleges the company has strayed from its original mission of prioritizing public benefit over profits. Recently, Musk escalated the case, requesting a federal injunction to halt OpenAI's transition into a more profit-driven business model.
Altman’s donation reflects the growing interplay between technology leaders and government, highlighting their shared influence in shaping the future of AI and policy.
