Civil war broke out there in 2012 over Shia-Sunni conflict. Actually, Bashar al-Assad, who is himself a Shia Muslim, became the President of Syria in 2000.
Sunnis accused him of being biased. Protests began against Bashar's government. Hassan Nasrallah supported Bashar al-Assad in this rebellion. For this, he sent thousands of Hezbollah fighters to Syria.
