FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM, AND WHATSAPP FACES GLOBAL OUTAGE AFFECTING THOUSANDS

Meta's Platforms Face Major Outages, Disrupting Users Globally

Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp experienced widespread outages on Wednesday, leaving thousands of users unable to communicate or access their accounts, according to reports from Reuters.

Issues began around 10:58 PM, with Facebook users struggling to log in, post updates, or view content. Instagram, also owned by Meta, faced similar problems, including app crashes and difficulties in accessing posts. Both mobile and desktop versions were affected.

WhatsApp users reported disruptions in sending and receiving messages, while Meta’s newer platform, Threads, also experienced performance issues.

The outage was tracked by Down Detector, which logged over 70,000 complaints for Instagram and more than 100,000 for Facebook. The scale of the disruption highlighted the significant impact on users across the globe.

Meta acknowledged the problem, tweeting on X:

"We’re aware that a technical issue is impacting some users’ ability to access our apps. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience."

Ironically, users flooded X, Meta's competitor, to discuss the outage. Many found humor in Meta’s reliance on X to communicate updates about the disruptions.

This isn’t the first time Meta has faced such issues. In March, a major outage disrupted Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, and another significant incident in October 2022 affected Facebook and Instagram globally.

Meta’s platforms have become integral to communication, and these recurring outages raise concerns about the reliability of its services.
