AFGHAN TAEKWONDO CHAMPION MARZIEH HAMIDI FACES ONLINE THREATS FROM TALIBAN SUPPORTERS

Marzieh Hamidi, a prominent Afghan taekwondo athlete and vocal critic of the Taliban regime, has been subjected to a barrage of online threats and harassment from Taliban supporters. The threats, which include death threats and misogynistic abuse, have escalated since Hamidi spoke out against the Taliban's oppressive policies towards women and girls in Afghanistan.

Hamidi, who now resides in France under police protection, has been a target for her outspoken stance on social media. She has used her platform to denounce the Taliban's restrictions on women's rights, including their ban on girls' education and women's participation in sports.

The threats against Hamidi highlight the ongoing dangers faced by Afghan women who dare to speak out against the Taliban. Despite international condemnation, the Taliban continue to suppress dissent and silence critical voices.

Human rights organizations have condemned the threats against Hamidi and called on the international community to take action to protect Afghan women and girls. They have also urged social media platforms to take steps to address the spread of hate speech and online harassment.

Hamidi's ordeal underscores the urgent need for a global effort to support Afghan women and girls and to hold the Taliban accountable for their human rights abuses.
