Kinshasa
: Violence in African countries shows no signs of stopping, with nations continuing to suffer from waves of deadly attacks. In the latest incident, an armed group carried out a fatal assault in northeastern Congo, leaving at least 20 people dead. Several others are feared injured. Local authorities reported on Tuesday that civilians were specifically targeted in the attack, and the gunmen fled the scene afterward.

For nearly a decade, eastern Congo has been a battleground between government security forces and more than 120 armed groups. The ongoing conflict has claimed thousands of lives, yet no path to peace has been found so far. It's notable that armed groups frequently bomb civilian areas as part of their fight to control gold and other resources in the region.

Attack in Fataki Village
Local administrator Jean-Marie Makpella stated that fighters from the 'Cooperative for the Development of Congo' (CODECO) attacked Fataki village in the Djugu area, killing at least 20 people. He explained that during Tuesday’s attack, houses were set on fire, and belongings were looted. Villagers were engaged in their daily tasks when their homes were set ablaze, and they were subsequently killed. The incident has created a climate of fear in the surrounding areas.
