President Joe Biden has issued a strong warning following the death of three American soldiers in Iraq-Syria airstrikes, stating that if any American is harmed, there will be a response.
In a statement that emerged after the airstrikes in Iraq and Syria, President Biden expressed that while the United States does not seek conflict in the Middle East, they are prepared to respond if any harm comes to Americans. The President emphasized, "The United States of America does not seek conflict in the Middle East or anywhere else. But let those who wish us harm know this: if you harm an American, we will respond forcefully."
Aerial attacks on Sunday targeted an American military post in Jordan by Iran-backed terrorists using drones, resulting in the tragic deaths of three American service members and injuries to more than 40 others, according to reports. In response, the United States initiated airstrikes targeting militia locations in both Iraq and Syria.
President Biden's Warning
Addressing the recent events, President Biden stated, "This afternoon, in my direction, the U.S. military conducted airstrikes against facilities used by Iranian-backed militia groups responsible for recent attacks on U.S. personnel in Iraq. Our response was conducted in the context of ongoing operations, and further action will be taken."
U.S. Central Command reported that the airstrikes hit more than 85 locations in Iraq and Syria, targeting militia groups affiliated with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The statement indicated the use of long-range bomber aircraft, including B-1 bombers, in the attacks. These aircraft are capable of carrying precision and non-precision munitions.
Defense Secretary's Statement
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin also issued a statement in support of the airstrikes in Iraq and Syria. He mentioned that the strikes are part of the response to the attacks on American forces by IRGC and affiliated militia groups. Austin emphasized that the U.S. does not desire conflict but will take necessary actions to defend its interests, forces, and allies.
The situation remains tense, and the U.S. has signaled its commitment to protecting its personnel and interests in the region, underscoring the gravity of the recent events in the Middle East.
