According to the information, a hot air balloon crashed in the desert of southern Arizona, resulting in the death of 4 people and injuries to several others. It was mentioned that around 7:50 AM, near Sunshine Boulevard and Hanna Road in the desert area, a hot air balloon met with an accident. In this incident, 4 people died, and another person was seriously injured. Eloy Police mentioned that they are in continuous contact with federal agencies such as the NTSB and FAA to determine the causes of the incident. Currently, the reasons for the incident are unknown.
How Did The Incident Happen?
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), responsible for investigating the incident, stated that, according to preliminary information, the accident occurred due to some uncertainty in the hot air balloon. One of the victims was identified as 28-year-old nurse Katie Bartram.
There were a total of 13 people on board the hot air balloon, including approximately 8 skydivers, 4 passengers, and one pilot. It was reported that 8 skydivers had jumped before the accident. One person died at the scene, while the other 3 died during treatment at the hospital.
Eloy Police Chief Byron Gwaltney mentioned that the skydivers had safely exited the hot air balloon. This indicates that some malfunction occurred after their exit, leading to the incident. He explained that the hot air balloon came from outside, and it is believed that it was about to touch the Eloy Municipal Airport during the incident.
