The deal is estimated to span several years, possibly commencing with a collection related to Brady's NFL career documentary series. ESPN, the American sports broadcasting network, has collaborated with Tom Brady's non-fungible token (NFT) platform, Autograph. Tom Brady is a star in the National Football League (NFL). This partnership, anticipated to last for several years, might kick off with a collection tied to Brady's documentary series about his NFL career, created in collaboration with ESPN and his sports media company.
The "Man in the Arena: Tom Brady Collection" will be available on the Autograph platform, with sales taking place on the DraftKings digital marketplace. According to a press release, the collection will feature three different designs based on Brady's achievements. Following the progress of his career, a second collection titled "Back in the Arena" is expected to be released after the 10th episode of the documentary series. Brady will digitally sign 50 NFTs as part of this collaboration, marking ESPN's first venture into the world of NFTs. The association with Autograph and Brady's involvement, along with ESPN's presence in sports media, is expected to assist in branding and marketing.
Kevin Lopes, the Vice President of ESPN, stated, "We are excited about our first foray into NFTs. It will provide our fans with a mix of sports, technology, and content." Dillon Rosenblatt, the Co-founder and CEO of Autograph, mentioned, "The collection tied to Brady's documentary series marks the beginning of our collaboration with ESPN. As ESPN's first NFT partner, there is no shortage of possibilities in sports and technology."
Autograph's collections and projects involve a significant connection with individual athletes, offering a strong but limited potential for NFTs. ESPN's extensive volume of sports-related content and a large audience reach will benefit Autograph as well. NFTs utilize blockchain technology to authenticate tokens of unique items associated with digitally producible assets that can include art, music, in-game items, and videos. While these items can be traded online, they cannot be duplicated. The growing NFT market has seen a surge in scams, leading to substantial losses for some buyers.
